I am offering a Heavy engraved Solid Silver with gold inlay Fusee pocket watch in running order from 1873. It is hand made by Adam Burdess of Coventry in the UK who is a well listed & important maker of quality English watches in Coventry from 1860. Adam Burdess holds several important patents in watchmaking, such as one of the first keyless pocket watch movements. The movement is a typical Victorian style English lever escapement, fusee with a breguet style bimetallic hair spring and gold pinned balance wheel. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE STONE ON THE BALANCE WHEEL IS A REAL DIAMOND. The date mark is for London 1873. The case marker is WC and themaker is William Carter who was listed in 1852 as a watch case maker at 7 President Street East, Goswell Road, Clerkenwell, EC. This address was subsequently changed to 35 President Street, EC where Carter was still listed in 1885. All the silver marks are inside the case. An excellent collectors piece for only R4950.00.
